The tarot deck consists of 78 cards divided into two sections, the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. But you knew that right? What you may not know is that the cards have influences related to astrology, mainly the elements. It would take hours to read the impact of each card in this article, so let's start small.
Tarot cards are spilled in suits like your lucky poker deck. I will refer to the Rider Waite deck. It is the most famous of the decks. The four suits are: swords, wands, cups and pentacles.
Each of these suits is associated with the four elements of astrology. You know them well: air, fire, earth and water.
If you are not familiar with the properties of the astrological elements, here is a brief overview of their properties:
Positive, assertive, determined, active
Social, intelligent, doers, communicators
Stable, permanent, structured, introverted
Passive, receptive, reactive, intuitive
Back to the tarot. Each suit is assigned to one of these elements, so the overall tone or influence of this suit reflects the properties of the astrological element. Still with me? Great. Here are the suits and the element they are associated with:
Magic Wand Suit: Fire Element
Suit of swords: air element
Cup suit: earth element
Suit of the Pentacles: water element
Now you can put two and two together. The magic suit is a suit of action and motivation, and the sword suit is a suit of success, socialization and intellectual thinking. Well, you have the idea. Next time we'll meet the Royal Court of the Tarot suits and their elementary connections to astrology.
