Reading tarot cards is not easy - there are many decks and many different spreads (or ways of throwing and interpreting the cards). However, before you learn these rather complicated things, you first need to learn the basic meanings of every major tarot card. Here is an overview.
The fool. This card symbolizes endless possibilities and brand new beginnings, but also contains a warning. It is a reminder to be careful when making decisions.
Wizard. This card symbolizes creativity, willpower and desire. It indicates that a vision, idea, or solution to a problem is imminent.
High priestess. The high priestess represents knowledge that is instinctive, supernatural, and sometimes secret. If you get the high priestess, you will have to learn some very strange things in the near future.
Empress. The card is a symbol of creation and usually means either pregnancy, a new romance or a new business.
Emperor. The card symbolizes someone who is direct, impatient, demanding, innocent, controlling and sometimes tyrannical. The card also means leadership.
High priest. The high priest's purpose is to "bring the spiritual to earth" and usually symbolizes harmony and peace in a predicament.
Hanged man. This is not about death, but about suspensions and postponements. It reminds the reader to meditate, become selfless, and make sacrifices. It means that things will go on after some time, but for the moment a delay may be best.
Lover. This card symbolizes growth and maturity as well as the transfer of control to a higher power (e.g. love for another person, for a career or for a challenge).
Moon. This card symbolizes visions, illusions, intuitions and everything that has to do with sleep, dreams and nightmares. It warns of hidden enemies or tricks. It also warns of emotional and mental tests.
