In Nordic astrology, Frigga (represented by the planet Venus) is one of three planets that indicate the quality and nature of our love life. The other two planets are Freyja (sun) and Thor (Mars). Frigga represents the house and the family. Frigga means the part of us that wants marriage, children, a loving family, a comfortable home and refuge from a hostile world. Frigga helps determine how we build a household and a life together with a long-term partner.
Since Frigga has an affinity for the Night East House of Nordic astrology, we also look at these octants of the circle of the sun to get a description of our long-term partnerships and our home environment.
We face a paradox when we examine the effects of Frigga in Nordic horoscopes. Frigga is the planet of privacy, especially home as a haven from public affairs. Given their role, we will expect Frigga to be in a weak or subdued position when we look at the lives of public figures.
We start by analyzing the Nordic charts of two European heads of state, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy. For Merkel, we find Frigga in Ansuz, the rune of the subtle wind that overcomes barriers. Ansuz is helpful in other contexts, but not for Frigga's personal commitments. Frigga is also in her weakest house, the Day West House, the area of public affairs. The position helps Merkel to appear to the German people as a mother figure, but is not conducive to a personal family. Odin (Moon), the wanderer, is in the House of the Nighteast and emphasizes the lack of domestic commitment.
For Nicholas Sarkozy, we find Frigga trapped in Isa, the rune of cold, still ice. It has no essential aspects for other planets and only a weak aspect for Freyja. This cold and rigid environment is accentuated by the Norns (Neptune), the planet of obstacles, in the Night East House. In addition, we find the planet of social institutions, Tyr (Saturn), in the Night East House. This position has the same effect as Merkel's Frigga in the opposing Day West house - the domestic environment is overwhelmed by public obligations. From these points of view we can understand how his father left him, how his schoolmates mocked him and how he made three marriages.
We also find a weakened frigga in the table of actress Marilyn Monroe, who had three marriages and three divorces. Here we find Frigga in the intellectual, airy rune Mannaz, which prevents her from building lasting relationships. Frigga is in the day house, which emphasizes her feminine qualities, but works against a pleasant private life. There are no planets in the Night East house.
The Mexican painter Frida Kahlo has a more sophisticated frigga. Her frigga is in the very public day, rune of transformation, transcendence and catastrophe. This aspect alone explains her stormy, passionate relationship with Diego Rivera, whom she divorced and then remarried. It also explains how she made her home a haven for publicly controversial celebrities like revolutionary Leo Trotsky. Like Monroe, her house in Night East is empty. Kenaz, the rune of exams, tests and remodels, is the main character in her house in Night East.
